To be an Italian kid born in the late ‘80s means you’ve probably watched a lot of those very popular American teen dramas such as Beverly Hills 90210, Bayside School, Dawson’s Creek and other TV series like Gilmore Girls, 7th Heaven, OC and One Tree Hill. I was more the Disney kind of kid when they’ve first been broadcast in Italy but I’ve watched them all and I still do; now in English to keep improving it. They had something in common besides the drama: high school and college. I’m pretty sure everyone dreamed about those lockers in the corridors, cheerleaders and sport teams, all the extracurricular activities from theatre to journalism, the fact that you get to have a walk between classes and, of course, prom and graduation. Well, I have been dreaming about that my all life and one day I was at New Providence High School and my dream came true. I walked along those corridors, I saw the school band playing, I watched the theatre club rehearses and I actually took some interesting classes. If this was not enough, seven years lather I got a scholarship to study at SUNY New Paltz. I spent there 4 months and I would go back right now if I could because I loved every single moment at college. One day during my second week there I received an email from one of my classmates and I had to read it over and over again because I couldn’t believe it.

“Hi there, I am one of your classmates in the Entrepreneurial Journalism course this semester. I am looking to write an article about a student who has an interesting story of how he/she came to New Paltz. Your background, which you explained to the class on Wednesday, sparked my interest. Would you be willing to take part in an interview, and then to take part in a photo shoot later on? Please let me know if you are interested.”

You know, one day you’re walking in an amazing campus with your book in hand sipping a take away Starbuck’s coffee thinking you’re the luckiest person in the world because you got to live a dream…and a moment later one of those people that maybe don’t even realize how amazing to be there is, tells you you are interesting! I couldn’t believe it. The interview has been one of the most amazing experiences I did in my life, something new that I would have never expected to do and to see how really interested Charlene was in my life made me appreciate it even more than what I already did.

Last year, while I was organizing my first “Winx Cruise”, a journalist onboard for the event interviewed me about our experience onboard

Again, someone would have maybe been inspired by my life. Again, I would have maybe change someone’s life as mine had been changed by some TV series that someone would maybe call stupid. Nothing is stupid if it makes you dream. A movie, a book, an interview or a person, everything can inspire you to be a better person, to do something bigger, to make a difference. One day you’ll may get the chance to give the inspiration back, and you’ll be changed too.
